I believe with complete faith in the immense healing power held within love
(David ben Yosef)
Avukat Or was founded in 2004 by a group of parents of people living with a combination of disabilities: blindness, intellectual-developmental disability, physical disability and communication challenges. The organization runs a rehabilitative-therapeutic day center and a community housing network in Jerusalem.
Avukat Or is dedicated to blind adults with special needs. It was founded by Ruti, mother of Ariel, out of her need to find a fitting framework for her son — who was blind, used a wheelchair, communicated through head movements, and radiated light. The organization's DNA is a mother's heart, seeking to give her son a rich, worthy and fulfilling life — a life worth waking up for in the morning.
At Avukat Or, members are never seen as "just" patients or people with a disability, but first and foremost as people. Each is a world unto themselves, deserving the tools to feel, think and experience according to their own unique needs.
Every activity here — whether work, art, or breakfast — is meaningful and impactful, built from a deep desire to give each person their own space, their place, their dignity, and a sense of belonging. The atmosphere in the day center and the homes is joyful; the members are full of contagious energy and see those before them through the heart.
The organization's core values are human dignity, care, honesty and trust. Avukat Or marks 20 years since its founding and is soon completing a renovation of the day center. A new stage of maturity has arrived — looking forward, sharpening our message.
Avukat Or is a warm home and a place that believes in people — seeing beyond their limitations and fully supporting the fulfilment of their aspirations.
